Every year, BorderFest recognizes an individual that has contributed greatly to the South Texas region. This year, the Border Texan of the Year Committee has named Sam L. Susser as BorderFest’s Border Texan of the Year. Mr. Susser joins the ranks of past distinguished honorees including then-Governor George W. Bush, Governor Rick Perry, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, State Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa and Charles Butt to name but a few.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Susser is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Susser Holdings  Corporation, a third-generation family-led business. Mr. Susser currently operates over 550 retail convenience stores under the Stripes® banner. Among the many distinguished leadership positions he holds, Mr. Susser is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas and a Trustee and Chairman of the Driscoll Foundation, which owns the Driscoll Children’s Hospital System in South Texas. In 2009, Mr. Susser was admitted to the Texas Business Hall of Fame. He and his wife, Catherine, have one daughter and two sons.

Mr. Susser will be recognized at BorderFest’s Border Texan of the Year dinner on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. All proceeds from the benefit dinner are designated for the scholarship fund of the recipient’s choice. In its 23-year history, this event has raised over half a million dollars for deserving students in the Rio Grande Valley.

The Zac Brown Band follows in the footsteps of Tim McGraw, The Jonas Brothers., Janet Jackson and other superstars who have headlined BorderFest in the past.

Best known for catchy songs such as “Chicken Fried,” “Toes” and “As She’s Walking Away,” the Atlanta-based band has racked up more than 50 major music award nominations over the past three years and is currently in the running for the Best Country Album award at the 2013 Grammys.

Tickets for The Zac Brown Band go on sale Friday, Jan. 11. General admission tickets start at $45 each; reserved seating tickets are $163.75 each.

BorderFest 2013, proudly presented by Kraft, will kick off Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, and continue through Sunday, March 3, 2013. For the latest information about BorderFest, visit www.myborderfest.com.

Arena concerts during the Festival are being brought to our Fans in part by BorderFest Association. There is a $5.00 parking fee at the BorderFest grounds that is NOT included in the concert ticket price. Due to the demand of this concert, it is recommended to arrive prior to concert doors opening at 6:00p.m.

Car pooling is recommended due to high traffic. State Farm Arena Box Office and Will Call during BorderFest is always located outside of the WEST Main Gate entrance only.
